Any Suggestion For Sore Left Back Caused After An Injury?

A couple of nights ago, my husband (he's 67) missed a step coming down the stairs and ended up landing on his lower left back/side (around the kidney area) on the edge of the stairs. Very sore and grabs when he twists or tries to bend over. He's been keeping ice packs on it. Is there anything else he should do?

Hello,
Post injury the body takes some time to heal (approximately 2/3weeks).
Rest with hot packs will provide relief in pain due to protective muscle spasms.
He needs to avoid doing any painful movements.
Over the counter painkiller (Ibuprofen, diclofenac)can help in pain relief.
If the symptoms doesn't reduce in 1 week he needs an X-ray to rule out fracture.
Hope this helps you
thank you
