About A Year Ago My Boyfriend, Age 34, Started Having

About a year ago my boyfriend, age 34, started having stomach/digestive issues. He would go back and forth from constipation to diarrhea. He spends hours a day in the bathroom. He had been to numerous doctors, lots of test, blood, urine, stool, ultra sounds, cat scans. No one could figure it out. About 2 months ago out kids had pin worm. And 5 weeks ago my boyfriend had to have emergency surgery to remove his appendix. Since the surgery his digestive issues have not improved. He was told he has IBS. Today he pooped and there was what looked like a very long string in his poop. could this be related to the pin worms? Could this be what's causing him abdominal/stomach pain? Could this have been why he needed his appendix removed? He was tested for parasites twice. Once before the surgery and once after.
