Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A couple months ago I noticed a large bruise on the lower edge of the bulge of my calf muscle. I'm quite sure there was no injury to cause it but it didn't hurt much so I ignored it. The bruise has long since faded but now there is a lump running upward from where it was (about the size and shape of my pinky finger). It is painless and never visible even when the muscle is flexed but I can feel it when I press on it. More disturbing is that it is also EXTREMELY itchy and no matter how much I scratch it's like I can't scratch deep enough to get to it (the itch is not on the skin surface). I am 49 yrs. old, lead an active lifestyle, and have excellent cholesterol levels but I do take meds for high blood pressure and am a bit overweight. I don't have varicose veins and am generally healthy and eat right. What can this lump be and should I see my doctor?
