A car ran over and crushed my foot a week ago and I have two broken metatarsals which is going to operated on in two days. I am elevating and icing it, but every night it seems to swell up badly and the top of the foot goes red and has a very painful burning sensation which does not seem to not affected by pain killers (percocet, paracetemol, codeine etc.).

I went to the ER a couple of days ago when the foot started swelling and feeling weird. This was before the burning pain and I was told I did not have a clot or compartment syndrome. However the pain is basically spasming every 30s to 1min at night and I cannot get any sleep. Last night it finally calmed down at 2am. It looks like the same thing will happen tonight (if I am lucky).

Is this normal.
