Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
First of all, I would advice you to get a urine culture examination done to confirm and report the patients susceptibility or resistance to all antibiotics. This will help in rapid treatment of the current infection.
Now coming to the more important aspect of your query, which is the recurrent infections. Please understand that recurrent
urinary tract infections (UTIs) almost always have some underlying cause to it. Thus, we will have to thoroughly investigate the patient to find the cause of these recurrent UTIs. Keeping the patients age and sex in mind, the following could be some of the possibilities we will have to investigate:
-Uterine prolapse
-Pelvic inflammatory diseases
-Sexually transmitted infections
-Short urethra
-Diabetes
-Immunosuppressed state (due to age, medication, chronic
kidney conditions, etc.)
-Long-term/continuous urine catheter use
-Urinary stents
-Urolithiasis
-Neurogenic bladder
and many more.
Please consult your doctor and find the cause first. Treating the UTI over and over again is not the solution in such chronic cases. In the meantime, please ensure that the patient is well hydrated at all times.
I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.
Best wishes.
