71 Years. Severe Pain In Chestbone, Sore And Tender Sternum When Pushed, High BP. History Of Mitral Valve Replacement. On Medication And Paradax. Advice

My husband is 71 years old, has had a mitral valve replacement 7 years ago, is on medication to keep atril fibrillation at bay. He has been taking Paradax for the past week as a substitute for low dose asprin. He has just complained of a severe pain in his chestbone. Very sore and tender when he pushes on the sternum. His blood pressure is 187/98. Heart beat 55. This is high BP for him.

Hi and sorry to hear about what your husband is experiencing now.

From the information you have provided, he most likely has costochondritis. This is generally treated with anti inflammatory and pain medications and rest. The pain could explain why the blood pressure is again increased.

However, because of the past history of heart disease and cardiac surgery, i will advice that he consults with his doctor to get examined before settling on any single diagnosis like the one i have mentioned above. This is going to be very helpful.

Hope you find this helpful and informative. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask us. We shall gladly provide answers to them.
I wish you well and a speedy recovery.
