4 Month Old, Pus Bumps On Head, Hair Fall, White Bumps On Face. Born Month And A Half Earlier

Please help. My great nephew, 4 months old has pus bumps that come on his head. Some ooze, others are hard and dry up. Although they become dry, the skin around it becomes dry and his hair falls out. He also has lots of hard tiny white bumps all over his face. Our home is extremely clean. He was born a month and a half early. His clothes are washed separately in dreft baby detergent. His bottles are washed separately from ours as well.

Pediatrician 's  Response
hi there,

thank you for choosing HCM.

It seems like your nephew has very dry scalp. Often small babies have seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp which is excessively scaly and dry skin. And there is a tendency for the scalp to get superinfected.

I would suggest you should get him examined by his pediatrician, he probably needs to be treated with antibiotics or antifungals based on what your pediatrician finds. Also, he may need a shampoo like selsun blue shampoo to treat his underlying seborrhea.

hope this helps.

regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
