16 Year Old, 5'7". Any Way To Check If I Have Stopped Growing?

I'm a 16 year old teen who's 5'7" my mom is 5'1" and my dad is 5'9", even doe guys usually grow till 21 I'm not sure if I stopped growing or I'm still growing. Because I haven't grown for 2 years now and do I still have a chance to grow? My parents mom and dad are both short but my dad got really tall compared to them. I exercise every day I go to the gym and I play basketball alot. And is there a way to check if you have stopped growing?

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Boys usually grow in height till the age of 18 years and you have 2 more years to grow.

The final attainable height depends on your genetic endowment and nutrition and it can be calculated by your mean parental height which in turn calculated by using your parents height.

The way to check the stoppage of height is by doing X rays of relevant bones which will show the fusion of epiphyseal growth plates.

Consult an endocrinologist for the evaluation of your growth and height related queries.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Do not worry.
Your final height will depend on inherited genes and your nutritional intake.

Even if you take excess of proteins final height will not change. Only if there is dietery deficiency then you can correct that with good diet. A balanced diet is all that is needed.

To know if a person can still grow or not epiphysial fusion on X ray will give a clue.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
