Why Is My Heart Palpitations I Experience At Night

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Nov 2022
Question: I'm a 60 year old woman. I take 40mg of Crestor for High cholestarol. I have experienced heart palpatations since my 20's. Laying on my left side sometimes triggers heart pal's. I don't smoke, excerise regularly, eat right, drink white wine nightly, and have a stress free life. I'm concerned about the heart palpatations I experience at night as they scare me; especially since I'm older now.

Brief Answer:
I would recommend performing some tests:

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that it is quite normal to have some palpitations time after time in every healthy individual.

The fact that they are more frequent when you lay on your left side, could be related to the position and the diaphragm elevation (which is in a close contact with the heart).

Anyway, I would recommend performing some tests in order to exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia:

- a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid gland dysfunction
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends for a prolonged time and exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia
- complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes for any possible imbalances.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Thanks.
Dr. Iliri
