This Week I Went On Two Dates With A Girl

default
Posted on Sun, 15 Nov 2020
Question: this week i went on two dates with a girl and had unprotected sex with her after each of those. she told me on one of the dates she had sex with a guy (also twice) who later informed her he was herpes positive. i actually didnt really know much about herpes before and she said she was tested, negative and on birth control. i took that at face value and we had unprotected sex twice that week.

but after reading about the condition more i feel like she was a little casual about the whole thing and im somewhat worried. i wanted to ask an informed person how concerned i should be.

after asking her she said she got the test 6-8 weeks after exposure, it was an igg test and as i said she only had sex with the exposed person twice & i only had sex with her twice. she said she has never had any symptoms and the person who exposed her never did as well to their knowledge. the two of us had sex about 2 months after that.

i dont really feel right to date anyone else until i get tested, even if i use condoms. her blasé attitude towards it was a bit off-putting, as i feel like if i were in the reverse position i definitely would have confirmed my results at 3-4 months in. ive considered asking her to take another test, almost for her own sake, but feel a bit weird about that.

am i overreacting here? only 2 exposures and a negative test seem like nothing to worry about. but i still feel like this is gonna be rattling around my head for a while.

Brief Answer:
What type of Herpes you refer to?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to ASK A DOCTOR through HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
First of all, Herpes is not a single disease. There is Herpes zoster and Herpes simplex. In Hepese simplex also there are HSV 1 and HSV 2 infection. HSV2 is a sexually transmitted infection and HSV 1 is not. You had not mentioned about what you really refered to. Both Herpes Zoster and Herpes simplex are caused by different virus. Both are not life threatening disease. There are many people living happily in the presence of these tests positive without much problem. Your query needs more clarification what you really refers to.

Brief Answer:
More details of the test needed. Suggested HSV IgM

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Welcome back.
The contact of your sex partner could be a HSV 2 positive man. That does not mean he would have an active infection. In the absence of active lesions and in the absence of viral shedding, he would not be infectious. Moreover all those exposed to any infection are not necessarily get the infection. I have seen lot of spouses of HSV infected clients remain free from HSV manifestations for ever.
Your partner had tested negative for HSV IgG. The presence of HSV IgG indicates a late infection. Presence of IgM only can indicate a fresh infection.
Another thing is whether her report is really HSV 2 IgG?
Sometimes laboratory used to perform test with a common antigen for both HSV 1&2 together.
HSV is not a serious thing to be worried.
