Brief Answer:
Stay calm and help her with these steps.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to " Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

After a seizure you can help the person who had the seizure by following these steps:

1- if the person is in a dangerous place you should move her in a more comfortable place, or if there are dangerous objects around you should remove them.

2- note the time of the start and finish of the seizure, if prolonged ( more than 5 minutes) call the ambulance.

3- cushion the head and monitor her breathing.

4- don't put anything in her mouth and don't hold her down.

5- remove any food or false teeth if any from her mouth.

6-try to put her in the recovery position until she gains consciousness.
Check her breathing, if any difficulties, call the ambulance.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you, I have done all that as usual but the problem now is that I'm worried she might open her bowels involuntarily, as she has been quite gassy since the seizure up to now. She is still asleep and I fear it might happen soon. She has already urinated in her clothes and i don't want it to get worse. What do I do? Do I clean her or wait for her to wake? What if she opens her bowels unknowingly I don't want her to wake up like that. Please advise. Is this normal? Thanks

Brief Answer:
I think you can clean her.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

I think you can clean her without any problems.

If she fails to awake, I think you should ask for medical assistance.

Take care.
