Brief Answer:
You will need examinations to determine the nature of the mass

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome at "Ask a Doctor" service

Presence of a growth in the supraclavicular area (between the sternum and the neck) needs further evaluation. It may be a local mass of the organs that lay in the neck (muscles, thyroid, etc) or it can be an enlarged lymphnode due to a tumor in the distance (chest or abdomen). Kindly confirm if the growth is above collar bone or any other area.

To better know the nature of the mass it is important to have an ultrasound done. This is an easy test to order and not expensive and gives a lot of information. Your doctor might also ask for other imaging tests that might add to the information provided by the ultrasound. This might be an MRI or CT scan.

To conclude:
- you will need to have the mass examined to determine the nature of it
-generally an ultrasound of the neck is the first step and might be followed by other tests like MRI or CT xcan

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Thank you for the reply and clarifying the location of the lesion. I think we are in the same page.

The collar bone is called clavicular bone in medical terms and the area above it is called supraclavicular area. Any lesion in this area should receive prompt medical attention. A doctor needs to feel the area first and try to comprehend how deep it is and an ultrasound will assist in visualizing it better by determining the exact location, the size and the possible nature of it.

A doctor's visit (GP) and an ultrasound are easy to order and not much expensive so it would be advisable to set and appointment. If the doctor feels during the examination that more tests are needed, he may order other tests as well.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
