Hello, My MRI States : There Are Scattered FLAIR Hyperintensities

Question: hello, my MRI states : There are scattered FLAIR hyperintensities in the white matter which are excessive for age and include a focus in the right middle cerebellar peduncle and juxtacortical focus in the left superior frontal gyrus.

Whilst these findings are non specific the distribution raises the possibility of a demyelinating process

Does this look like Multiple Sclerosis.

Brief Answer:
Yes, multiple sclerosis is possible with these MRI findings.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to the "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your question, and the MRI report that you uploaded.

The answer to your question is yes, these MRI findings raise suspicion about Multiple Sclerosis as a possible diagnosis.

Acute demyelinating processes such as after viral infections should be considered too, but this is also evaluated in a clinical setting.

Discuss with your Neurologist these issues.

I hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

The lesions found in the brain MRI are located in the subcortical white matter, the location also suggests MS.

Anyway, the diagnosis of MS needs several factors to be confirmed (the main factor is the clinical features).

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
