Yesterday Around 3pm I Started Getting A Dull Headache .

Question: Yesterday around 3pm I started getting a dull headache. I have had a cough for a few weeks and I noticed that when I cough it would really exaggerate the pain and hurt quite a bit. I took 800mg of ibuprofen which didn't do much and then I tried 1000mg tylenol which didn't help much either. It's 2:00pm and I still have it. I just had a baby in April and rarely get headaches, but I have had two like this since I've given birth. I am terrified something serious is happening. Or is this just a mild migraine or tension headache? I don't have any other symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Repetitive cough may cause headaches.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

I don't see anything serious in your case.

It is a known fact that there may be headaches after repeated coughing, and this in mainly caused by repetitive increase in intracranial pressure as you cough.

So, the solution here should be the treatment of the cough and its cause.

Of your headaches don't improve after cough improvement then you should see your Doctor.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
