Yesterday I Had Some Of My Lower Teeth Hurting. Today

Posted on Fri, 8 May 2020
Question: Yesterday I had some of my lower teeth hurting. Today it spread to some of the top teeth. Iam in my 50's and thought perhaps my teeth were craming eachother and causing them to move. The pain is pretty severe like when you first have braces... Probably worse. I tried putting Orajel 4x medication along the gum line on the teeth that hurt. (My gums are pretty receeded). It did not stop the pain but instead it numbed by chin, lip and part of my left cheek. This was 10 hours ago and my chin, Lips and part of my cheek are still numb. It hasn't changed a bit... I havenow read that other people have expreienced this for weeks and even a year. I have found noone who says it will go away or has gone away. Advil does stop my tooth pain for a few hours. hat should I do about the numbness? Thank you

Brief Answer:
It can be due to gum infection

Detailed Answer:
Hii, First of all thank you for approaching us for your query. I read through your query. I suggest you to not to worry in this case. From the symptoms you told i feel it can be a generalised gum infection(generalised periodontitis). For making the diagnosis more clear I suggest you to send me the pics of your teeth and gums so that I can reach a proper conclusion and explain you with the further treatment plan. Hopeyou understood what I meant. Thankyou and have a healthy day.

Thank you Dr XXXXXXX I have taken a lot of photos but do not see how to attach them. Although I can see just how much my gums and teeth have deteriorated they do feel like they are tight against eachother. On the inside of 4 front bottom teeth I have a large build up of plaque which I think is pushing against my surrounding teeth. I took photos only of the side this is bothering me. It was the bottom left that firststarted hurting like they were pushing on eachother. Then the top left started hurting a couple of hours later. On the bottom right I think it is my cuspid that shows the most gum deterioration but it is my fisr molar and the next tooth that seem to hurt the most. (The one with the dark spot at the bottom of the tooth).
I also have concern about my using orajel 4x medicated. It has now been 14 hours and my chin and part of my cheek still are num. My gum line is also still num I read a few people's posts that have had this for weeks and even a year with no feeling coming back. I have one photo which shows my tongue..before using the orajel 4x medicated I did not have a star border around my tongue. I think you can see all the triangular points the border of my tongue now has. The photo also shows I have a bit of swelling on the left side. Lastly, the pain does seem to be less then yesterday.

Brief Answer:
Can be gum infection

Detailed Answer:
Hii, thank you for your followup query.

Unfortunately, I havint received any of your photographs. Kindly upload your photo or you an send them at YYYY@YYYY and address it to my name: Dr Roit Menon

But, from symptoms told by you i strongly have a feeling that it can be due to the gum infection which can be due to plaque accumulation resulting in receding gums also. I suggest you to use metrogyl Dg gel on the gums twice daily. You have to apply it on the gums and leave for 5 mins then wash it away with warm water. Then take amoxycillin antibiotic and meftal forte anti inflammatory for thrice daily for 5 days.
Do warm salt water gargle how much ever times as possible. The gum infection will reduce within a week. But once its reduced you have to meet your dentist and get it cleaned(scaling), then it will be completely gone. Have lots of fruits especially citrus fruits, it will help in better healing of gums. Lastly stay hydrated and stay calm. Be happy and cool. Happy mind is the best medicine for any disease. Hope you understood what I meant.

Please do rate my answer and help me in improving for future queries. Thank you and have a healthy day.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX

I just sent you 14 photos. Yesterday I did get a prescription for Clindamycin. I believe Amoxycillian woud be preferred but unfortunately for me I am allergic to it. I will look into the metrogyl Dg gel and the meftal forte as well. Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Its gum infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hiii thank you for the pictures. I saw the pics and i must say that its gum infection followed by recession(generalised periodontitis). Isuggest you to take those medicines(except amoxicillin since you are allergic). MetrogylDG gel will kill the bacteria in the gums so please do it twice daily and do warm salt water gargle. Meftal forte thrice daily for 5 days will reduce the inflammation. Butthe main reason is calculus n plaque. Itshould be removed by machine(scaling and root planing). Visit your periodontist and get it done fast. Regarding tongue do drink lots of water and have vitamin diet.Rest all is fine. Hopeyou understood what I meant. Thankyou and have a healthy day.
