Will The Popping Sensation Experienced After Treating A Left Knee Medial Meniscal Tear Go Away With Treatment?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Apr 2024
Question: I had a left knee medial meniscal tear and a partial arthroscopic medial meniscectomy was performed on the 23 March 18. It was diagnosed the knee revealed a fair amount chronically inflamed synovial tissue in the anterior portion of the knee and the middle of third to posterior horn of the medial meniscus was torn in degenerative fashion. I started Physical Therapy 2 weeks after surgery and I'm experiences a lot of popping to the point it can be heard by other people, knee buckled and inflammation. Is this normal during recovery and will the popping sound go away? I revisit the doctor who did the surgery and was told to continue Physical Therapy and asked did I want a cortisone shot in my knee. I'm worry something is not right with my knee

Brief Answer:
Joint lubricant supplements can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The popping sound in knee can be due to the degenerative changes in the knee and inflammation. Regular physical therapy can help but for an immediate relief and improvement, local steroid shot can help. It does not have much systemic side effects thus will not affect the blood pressure.
Another option is to get a shot of joint lubricants like hyaluronic acid. Additionally you can also start oral joint lubricant supplements like glucosamine after consulting your orthopedician.
I hope this answers your query.
