Will Residual Smoke From Marijuana Affect Child?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jul 2015
Question: Is the smell from smoked marijuana (not the actual smoke) harmful? If a joint is smoked at 3PM over the downdraft of a cook top that takes the smoke out of the house and a child enters the room at 5PM, will the child be affected by any residual smell (NOT smoke)?

Brief Answer:
Do not think this should be a problem

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I do not think that amount of residual components can cause any amount of damage, and also that amount of one time exposure would not do any amount of damage to anybody, let alone a child.

But I would at the same time also advise avoiding repeated exposure in such a manner to prevent/avoid damage in the future. i hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

The child visits perhaps one or two days a week, and is usually in bed asleep on the second floor when the marijuana is smoked. Again, the downdraft on the cook top is very efficient and removes at least 98% of all of the smoke, if not all. Adults entering the room rarely smell anything. Does this constitute "repeated exposure?"
Would it be better to smoke in the attached garage?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Sounds perfectly safe

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

No, this does not constitute repeated exposure, but just to make sure you along with everybody else around is safe I would recommend smoking in a different and more open space; not the garage as this is a closed area and would result in increased inhalation by the smoker(s).

But the child will most certainly be safe from the described method. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
