Will CT Scan Reveal Large Internal Grade 3 Hemorrhoid That Prolapses Every Time?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Mar 2024
Question: Hey, I have what I beleive is a large internal grade 3 hemmeroid that prolapses every time I have a bowl movement.

I have a CT scan booked for a month from now, will this show if there are more further in? What level of detail will it be able to show for them?

Are there any other types of scan I can use that would diagnose the internal hemmeroids officially?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
A colonoscopy would be better option

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
CT scan of the abdomen is intended to know details of any other associated lesions or conditions in your abdomen, it won’t give much details about haemorrhoids as such.
A colonoscopy will give more details about haemorrhoids.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks

Would CT scan with contrast show things like inflamed colon, ulcers, polyps or other conditions in the colon and intestines?

Brief Answer:
Other conditions can be detected.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
CT scan mainly detect tumors and polyps of colon. However ulcer is difficult to visualise in CT.
For polyp and direct visualisation of tumors and polyps colonoscopy would be better choice.
Usually colonoscopy is the first investigation followed by CT.
Thanks
