Whom Should I Consult After An Episode Of Breathlessness?

Posted on Wed, 12 Jan 2022
Question: Hi,

This morning when I was leaving for work I suddenly couldn't breathe. I had something like this happen before but this was totally scary. I was gasping for air and nothing went in or out. It tried relaxing but it took me a minute to get to normal and I felt really faint by then. I had used hairspray just before that. It did go away and I feel fine but I would like to get your suggestion what kind of dr should I go to. I have been seeing only a family dr. I do take blood pressure medications, and am 69yrs old. I do feel normally very well - I only suffer from allergies to pollen. I am 194lbs/5ft 2inc tall. I would be very thankful for your suggestions.

Thx so much.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Answers to above questions:

1. I cannot remember exactly but I would guess 3yrs
2. No other illnesses other than allergies to pollen
3. My father died at 63yrs of age of heart attack
4. None
5. I was standing and holding onto a wall trying to relax and control myself and I believe I would have passed out but in the last moment little by little it passed. I forgot to mention earlier that after that I spit out some phlem. Since then I have been OK.

Brief Answer:
Hello Again

Detailed Answer:
These chemical spa rats contains aerosols to which many people develop allergies and they causes sudden and transient bronchospasm which most likely has happened in your case also.

So just relax there is nothing to worry and just avoid using such sprays but if you have then use a mask before spraying them.

As your father had an MI so just maintain a healthy lifestyle and go for basic cardiac evaluation every year.

I hope this information will answer your query and relieve your worries.

Kind Regards
