Question: When I stand up from a sitting or lying position my upper right leg causes me some pain. It's worse first thing in the morning probably because I have been lying all night. It goes away after I walk around awhile. What can I do about it?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service!

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a musculoskeletal pain (twitched muscle) or a pinched nerve (probably caused by a bulging disc).

For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam, nerve conduction studies, and a lumbar spine X-ray. A lumbar spine MRI study may also be needed in order to exclude a possible bulging intervertebral disc in this region.

Some blood lab tests for inflammation are needed too (complete blood count, CRP, ESR).

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Dr. Sharka,

How much are these steps likely to cost? I am effectively uninsured ($6,500 deductible).
