Posted on Tue, 6 Apr 2021
Question: I am wanting to conceive in the near future. I am currently on Marlissa 28 an OC and have been for six years. I am on my first week of a new pack. When should I stop the pill and when will it be safe to start trying after stopping? Should I finish my pack?

Brief Answer:
can stop any point in the course, depends on folic acid

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You can stop it at any time, there is no particular point that would be best during the contraceptive course.
It is actually safe to try to conceive within a few days (2 to 3) of discontinuation.

You should be on folic acid if you are going to try and conceive and in general it is thought that this should be used for a few weeks before discontinuing birth control to get good levels in the body.
Folic acid plays a big role in the development of a fetus, particularly in the first trimester.

If you are already taking folic acid and have been for a few weeks, you can stop anytime.
If not, then you can consider starting now and continue contraception for another 3 to 4 weeks at least.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you for the response. After doing research online (I know its wrong) I read that trying to conceive right after getting off birth control can potentially cause a miscarriage because lining is not built back up...is this true?

Brief Answer:
not an issue with most persons but if concerned can wait

Detailed Answer:
HI

It's not wrong to check for information for yourself.

Many women who forget to take one or two pills ,accidentally conceive and carry babies to term successfully but if you are concerned you can use barrier protection for a short period of time.

Remember to start folic acid.
