Question: Hello, I recently came in contact with a woman who got Herpes HSV-1 from her ex boyfriend. According to her she’s never had an outbreak and is prescribed acyclovir after confirming with her doctor it’s in her system. When we came in contact we only had open mouth kissing for about 5 Minutes and I did not see any visible signs of an outbreak. It’s been five days since and I don’t notice anything different about my lips or mouth. How many days have to pass before I’m out of the woods? What risk do I have of contracting the virus?

Brief Answer:
Risk minimal

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Since there was no active lesion, the risk of transmission is minimal and the timeframe is out of the question since there was just a minute risk. However, theoretically, the risk is not zero. Nevertheless, I would insist you not to get anxious.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
