What Needs To Be Done For Low BP And Pulse Rate?
Question: My husbands blood pressure is 74/53 and his pulse is 54. He is 69 and had a pacemaker for about 5 years, due to failure of his electrical system.

I would recommend you to halve his dosage of beta-blockers, due to these low blood pressure figures, i.e. if he is taking them twice a day, he should take only the morning dosage and withhold the evening dosage, because pshysiologically, in the evening, blood pressure tends be lower than normal.
As about the pacemaker, if it was implanted for symptomatic bradicardia or heart block, usually it is graded to produce heart beat of 60 beats per minute. There are cases that it is graded to 50 beats per minute. Anyway, I would recommend you to check the functioning of the pacemaker with your arrhythmologist or general cardiologist, to see if it is functioning properly. If it is graded to produce 60 beats per minute, then a heart rate of 54 beats per minute signifies that there might be a problem with the pacemaker functioning.
