Brief Answer:

Alternate treatment methods are limited.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Yes, surgery is the primary mode of treatment of gall bladder stones.

Though another form of treatment - medical drugs and shock wave to break stones are available, they have limited effects and only used in a few types of gallstones.

They are not effective in all forms of gall bladder stones. Therefore, surgical treatment is the most used treatment of gall bladder stones.

I will suggest you discuss with a gastroenterologist and your surgeon and discuss the need for surgery and when it could be done.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
