My general doc had just given me the Metformin and numbers really arent great but its way better than when I 1st went to see the DR. Brief Answer:
Yes, if it is LADA, you can take oral antidiabetics.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

As we said in our last discussion, LADA is defined as initially non-insulin requiring diabetes diagnosed in people aged 30-50 years with antibodies to GAD - glutamic acid decarboxylase.

It is beneficial if LADA is diagnosed correctly as if LADA is incorrectly diagnosed as type 2 diabetes, it could lead inappropriate treatment methods that could lead to poorer diabetes control and could accelerate the loss of insulin producing ability.

About the treatment of this condition, I can say that; because LADA develops slowly, someone with LADA may be able to produce enough of their own insulin to keep sugar levels under control without needing insulin for a number of months or sometimes even years after the initial diagnosis of diabetes.

But, it is true that Insulin will almost certainly be required at some point in the future.

There is evidence to suggest that starting insulin treatment soon after a diagnosis of LADA will help to better preserve the pancreas’ ability to produce insulin.

So, to resume my answer:
Treatment for LADA includes basic diabetes self-management.
Exercise more; avoid refined carbs; eat a healthful diet; and check your blood sugar levels to find out what makes them go up and down, for example.

Oral diabetics can be helpful for some time but insulin will be soon indispensable and it is beneficial to start insulin sooner rather than later because some studies show injected insulin protects beta cells from damage.

Hope I have clarified your doubts. Let me know the LADA test result so that I can assist you further. Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Yes, you can gain weight.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I'm sure that if you start a good healthy diet and you follow my advice (that I write in our last discussion) you will gain weight without problem.

So, don't worry, eat healthy (it is better a healthy hypercaloric diet) and exercise every day. This is all you need to stabilize your weight.

Hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wish you all the best.

Regards
