What Is The Difference Between Plantar Fasciitis And Achilles Tendonitis?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jul 2015
Question: How can I tell the difference between plantar faciitis and a problem with my Achilles' tendon? I have swelling on both sides of my ankle. Worse on the outside and some radiating pain on the bottom of my foot. Feels better with RICE.

Brief Answer:
I would like to know your symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you may be having either one or both. Planter fasciitis has more pain at heel where as achillis problem has more symptoms at back of ankle. Before I advised you any thing I would like to know little detail of your illness.
1. Do you have pain in morning or evening?
2. Pain is more in heel or back of ankle?
3. Did you done any x rays yet?
please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

I have worse pain when I first stand up especially in the morning.

Pain is both in the heel and the back of the ankle. Sometimes radiating under the foot. It gets better if I walk on it or use the elliptical but if I try to jog it really hurts. Swelling is on both sides of my heel but worse on the outside.

No x-Rays yet.

Brief Answer:
This is planter fasciitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think this is planter fasciitis. You can get x ray of the heel and you will see a bony spur at heel bone. For treatment you have to do this.
1. Hot water fomentation
2. injection of steroid in heel by trained doctor
3. avoid bare foot walking and use silicone insole
4. calf stretching exercises
I hope these steps will be helpful for you. Let me m kw know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
