Question: My grand daughter who is almost 7 years old was diagnosed with Nail Psoriosis by a dermatologist in NY few years ago. She had all tests done to root out the fungal infection. She was prescribed with steroid ointment but her mom ( my daughter in law) didn't want the external treatment and went for homeopathic treatment.
She developed this when she was approximately 2 years.
Please advise the best treatment.

Nail psoriasis

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have viewed the images. Definitely looks like nail psoriasis.. All 20 nails are involved. I would suggest topical tazarotene 0.05 % gel once every night. In addition I suggest topical calcipotriol (Vitamin D analogue) and clobetasol propionate 0.05 % combination ointment, twice daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for the answer Dr however I have couple questions:
1. How long this treatment should continue?
2. Can we still continue with Homiopathic treatment while using this recommended treatment?
3. What are the side effects ?
4. Is this a permanent solution?
5. How do we contact you in emergency if we need to ?
6. Your website doesn’t have a telephone number to contact ?
Please reply.

Brief Answer:
Regarding nail psoriasis

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I suggest a fair trial of at least 2-3 months and if it works it would take about 6-9 months. Yes, you may continue with homeopathic treatment but I don't think it would have any impact on nail psoriasis. So better to stick to just allopathy. There are no side effects with the topical treatment except mild irritation to tazarotene. Nail psoriasis may relapse and therefore maintenance treatment with tazarotene or topical steroid ointment may be required. Psoriasis of nails is not an emergency. Nail involvement would improve gradually over months. I suggest you to get back to me via this forum after 2-3 months of use.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
