What Is Cause For Shortness Of Breath With Sudden Onset With Headache?
Question: the episodes of shortness of breath with sudden onset with headache has been going on several months. My dad had a heart XXXXXXX which was normal. Also wore a heart monitor which detected a few premature beats otherwise normal. My dad has a history of smoking but quit several years ago. He is on meds for blood pressure, anxiety and prostate med. My question is could this be onset of COPD or possible carotid stenosis? I am a nurse and this is what I came up with based on his symptoms. He has an appt with a lung specialist in October.

Sudden onset breathlessness can be a sign of cardiac illness. As the echo and cardiac work up were normal we can rule out cardiac conditions.
COPD almost exclusive for chronic smokers.
Carotid stenosis present with recurrent stroke or transient attacks of weakness or black out.
Other possibility would be a panic attack which is more possible as he is on anti anxiety treatment already.
