What Does The MRI Report Indicate?

Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: I have been diagnosed with CRPS in my right foot from an injury I had in mid dec.2014. I have had 3 xrays taken,a Bone Scan and recently an MRI. The results of the MRI revealed I have arthritis in my big toe and one of the two bones under the big toe is in two pieces. I have a very high arch on my feet. I really don't want to have the spinal cord injection with pain block medication to conclusively determine its CRPS. I fractured my 4th toe on my rt foot but it is almost completely healed. The 4th toe is still a shade of purple and my foot still swells at times. I am currently wearing a walking cast which helps alleviate my pain as it gives my foot/ankle/calf more support. Do you think I could be developing more arthritis in that foot?? I am currently on disability from work ever since the accident happened. It is not improving-the pain. Any treatment options for me?? Contrast baths do not help. Ibuphropen at 800mgs a dose barely helps. Please let me know what you think could possibly help me and be even more descriptive about why I still have so much pain??

Brief Answer:
Please send your MRI report.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that the finding you are telling on MRI that you are developing arthritis will need further evaluation , for which we need to see the MRI report in detail .

Since you have been diagnosed with CRPS we need to take your doctors word for that or else you need to send the previous reports to look for the authenticity for the same .

Since you mention you had a high foot arch so in my opinion mechanical component will be much more as compared to everything else because in high foot arch the pressure distribution is mainly over toes and bones adjoining so injury is continuous at those points. So please send us the reports because treatment will be according to diagnosis and we need to determine that first .

Take care.

This is the MRI report that the Dr. sent to me by e-mail. I am not sure if it is the full report. I would have to obtain that in person at the clinic when it is open.1. early arthritis of the big toe where it meets the foot.2. 2-sesamoid bones under the big toe-one is in two pieces. 3. 4th toe shows fully healed. That is all the information he sent to me. It hurts to bend my toes. The pain is up into my arch and the top of my foot which is the top part of the arch. The pain also shoots up into the outer side of my calf. I rub that but it doesn't fully help. Would you recommend the spinal cord injection with pain block medication to definitely rule it as CRPS?? I still believe that is not fully the only thing going on with my foot. Will the 1 sesamoid grow back together eventually?? And again what can help with arthritis??

Dear Madam,

Thank you for reverting back.

Well by this report we cannot judge as there are so many types of arthritis , whether it is degenerative that is age related or inflammatory arthritis will determine the treatment , so need the full report for that .

Secondly dont worry about sesamoid bones , it healing or not healing wont affect your pain .

Have you got other symptoms like swelling, skin discoloration , skin changes on your feet which must be there for CRPS then you can try the injection , it may be beneficial as your doctor remains the best judge as he has examined you.
