Question: Can a yeast infection or Bacterial Vaginosis indicate occult blood in a urinalysis? If not, then what could it be? I have uploaded my urinalysis report.

Brief Answer:
Blood in the urine is not associated with Yeast or BV

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the question. I have taken time to review the UA that you have attached. It is not terribly worrisome but I understand your concerns. Small amounts of blood in the urine are actually common and it might make more sense to understand if there were any additional symptoms that led to them ordering this test.

Occult blood in the urine could be associated with:

1. It could be normal - small amounts of red blood cells can be found in the urine and not be a sign of anything (asymptomatic hematuria)
2. It could be a sign of a bladder infection (they should send a culture of the urine)
3. It could be a contaminant (recent period, recent intercourse)
4. It can be associated with kidney stones
5. Least common in someone your age would be related to kidney disease

What you should have them to do is:

1. Once you complete treatment for BV/yeast
2. Have them repeat the UA and send a urine culture
3. If blood persists on the UA, then ask for a referral to a Urologist for evaluation of hematuria

I hope that this helps
