What Does My HIV 1 PCR RNA Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Feb 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,
I had a possible hiv exposure 14months before, after that many hiv tests been taken(Elisa 4th gen,PCR RNA ,rapid tests) all negative except one rapid test result,in east XXXXXXX when lab technician was performing rapid test he used different buffer solution on rapid pad(unigold buffer on determine rapid test) ,So it was showed slightly positive then many hiv tests I have been repeating ,all tests are negative,

Finally last week I took few tests in metropolis lab,all clear and understandable but Hiv 1 pcr rna result shows 'Not detectable' which means sample does not have hiv1 rna copies or it has less than 20copies,here confusing ,generally rna pcr report shows 'Not detected' but my result shows 'Not detectable'.

Pls go through my complete reports especially my hiv 1 rna pcr report then advice my hiv status,I am getting married next week.
My hiv tests are conclusive?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You are free from HIV infection can get marry without any fear

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Don,t bother about the rapid test done at XXXXXXX
You had more reliable and advanced HIV tests in a well reputed laboratory nearly 14 months after the exposure. Western blot test, 4th geneartion Combo test and HIV RNA PCR Test for both for HIV 1 and 2 were nonreactive. You had HIV RNA PCR Qualitative test for HIV 2 and not the quantitative test. There only comes the question of low level viral load beyond the detection level and not with qualitative test. Regarding HIV 1 infection you had P24 antigen test and 4th generation test and western blot. All were non reactive. So you need not worry about the past exposure. Simply forget and get married happily. In future try to stick to safe sex always to avoid unnecessay mental tension.

Dear doctor,
Thanks for you answers,
1.here my concern about hiv-1 rna pcr qualitative result, they mentioned 'Not detectable' what does exactly meant?whether absence of hiv infection or detected but less than 20copies?

2.Before I took this tests I have taken azithromycin 500mg + anti allergy tablet 10mg +aceclofenac 100mg for three days then after five days interval I took these hiv tests, these tablets could affected my HIV tests accuracy?

3.I have persistent white coating tongue, this is main symptom in last few months,So I took my cd4/cd8 count, result as below,cd4-976,cd8-906 ,Cd4/cd8 ratio is 1.08,this ratio is normal?

4.also I took pep tablets for four days after exposure (14months before)stopped due to side effects, these 4 days pep drugs would effect on my HIV tests which I took last week?

5.Please my HIV tests are conclusive?do I need to repeat?

Sorry for many questions.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
YOU ARE FREE from HIV infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
1. In the absence of infection also it will be mentioned in the RNA PCR as undetectable and also in patients who are on effective treatment When the individual responded well to treatment.
2. Azithromycin is an antibiotic and has action only against bacteria and not on virus. Anti allergic drugs and aceclofenac also have no influence on the test.
3. Your CD4 Count and the CD4:CD8 ratio also are within normal limits.
4. PEP can affect the test results, but not after 6 months after the drugs. You had your test after 14 months. So there is no question of the test would have been affected by PEP.
5. Your HIV test results are conclusive. You need no more test
