What Does Elevated Diastolic Dysfunction Indicate?

Question: I have 8 coronary artery stents. My doctor told me that I have a diastolic dysfunction of 68 which is not normal and has put me on Toprol. What does the number 68 mean? Thank you

Brief Answer: Diastolic dysfunction alone Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for your query. I believe 68 is the ejection fraction. To diagnose isolated diastolic dysfunction, systolic functioning should be normal. The ejection fraction which is a measure of systole if more than 60, the systolic function is considered normal. When there is diastolic dysfunction with ejection fraction more than 60, diagnosis of isolated diastolic dysfunction is confirmed. If the diastolic dysfunction is associated with low ejection fraction (less than 60) then it is considered that entire heart is in failure rather than diastolic dysfunction alone.
