What Does A Lump Above The Navel Signify?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Jul 2023
Question: I felt a lump way above my bellybutton and it was large and then I urinated and the lump got smaller. I have a lump still there but it's reduced by 75%.

I noticed the lump last night and when I urniated this morning it went down by 50% and then I urniated again and went down more. I haven’t tried to put pressure on it yet. It’s a little tender. When I try to pass gas and I strain it doesn’t get any bigger at all. I haven’t gone to a doctor yet

When I look it up online I am not having any burning when I urniated. I don’t have lower abdominal pain. Could I have a hernia?

Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation and investigations.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

As per the history, you have given this may be a condition called urachus which has got manifested now.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
- Consult a General surgeon for clinical examination.
- Ultrasonography and CT scan to know the exact diagnosis so that further management can be planned.

Please get these done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Surely yes, umbilical or para-umbilical hernia comes under differential diagnosis but then it is not related to urination; enlarges with coughing or straining, is reducible on pressure. Pain, as you said about, can be obstructed hernia.

Since you have given a specific history of reduction on passing urine the most probable diagnosis is Urachus. Hence, the need for an actual examination and confirmatory investigations.

Please go for these to get the best possible diagnosis so that appropriate management can be done as you have symptoms now.

Hope I have answered your query.
