Question: Experiencing tingling around lips and mouth and overall body jitters, tremors and muscle cramps. Hands are so shaky that difficult to hold utensils. The muscle cramps have been for about a month with eye twitching. Started taking magnesium 800mg daily for the cramps which never really subsided and a week ago started taking calcium vith vitamin D. Now experiencing extreme anxiety and trembling. Could this be hypocalcemia brought on by over consumption of the magnesium?

Brief Answer:
It is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Hypermagnesemia may suppress PTH (parathyroid hormone) secretion, so, may result in hypocalcemia.

So, the answer to your question is yes, it is possible, but blood tests about electrolytes levels and PTH level are necessary to be sure about this.

Discuss with your Doctor about getting these blood tests done.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Kind regards.
