What Causes Throat Infection With Small Hard Movable Bump Below Tonsil?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Dec 2015
Question: I was very sick about 8 months ago with a bad throat infection. It took two rounds of antibiotics and it eventually cleared up but since then I have been left with a strange feeling in the back left side of my throat. I have gone to two ENTs (one original and one for a second opinion). One of those ENTs has scoped my throat twice and saw nothing abnormal, but the sensation has not gone away. Further, after my last scope (about 3 weeks ago), I felt down the side of my throat and can feel what I would describe as a small hard moveable bump below my tonsil (only on the left side). What could it be? Do I need to go back to the ENT for another scope/exam of this bump?

Brief Answer:
You are most probably having post nasal discharge (PND) back in throat .

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having
post nasal discharge (PND) back in throat .

In my opinion , Small hard movable bump below tonsil most probably is lingual tonsil . No need to go back to the ENT for another scope/exam of this bump , it is commonly seen . No need to concern .

For strange feeling in the back , I would advice
Saline nasal rinse or spray thrice daily,
Antiseptic Mouth Wash twice daily like BETADINE(1%) &
Antihistaminic Tab LORATADINE 10mg at night for 5 days

You will get relief .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.

Thanks for the follow up query.

Post nasal discharge (PND) is common after upper respiratory track infection for months in some cases due to nose allergy & goes down more on one side of throat causing inflammation.

If you are also having , acid reflux you will also need antacids .

Follow treatment plan , you will get relief .

I (stupidly) have been pushing on this bump in the back of my throat all weekend and now the area feels awful. I can feel it more when i put my ear to my shoulder and move my tongue around - feels like a pointy something or other. Could it be bone or cartlidge? Im veryconcerned its cancerous.
