What Causes Swelling In Left Foot And Ankle

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: Over a few years have developed swelling in left foot and ankle, ankle cannot support me, flops inwards, have (can't think of the word) no blood flow in lower leg (had scan, watched screen nothing, refused to let me have a report, they automatically let me have copies of all reports, skin now turning red in patches and calves feel tight. In the past I have had two or three DVTs in that leg. My right leg is following suit. I do have arthritis and my left knee is so bad hurts like hell after taking a few steps so virtually wheelchair bound and have to use a mobility scooter outdoors. What will bring the swelling down. Would rather have a gel to rub on as I am on warfarin.
Scanned report onto computer but don't know how to upload the report.

Brief Answer:
Compresison stockings can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of your legs so I can give more precise answer?

From your description, swelling can be caused by veins insufficiency and veins thrombosis in the past. Due to impeded blood flow through veins fluid gets out from blood vessels and remains in tissues.
If your calf is painful, DVT is also possible.
The best way to see your veins condition is Dopplers ultrasound. In case of insufficiency, surgical removal of veins would give much improvement to your legs.

As a temporal solution, compression stockings should help. Gel wont help in this case.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
