What Causes Sudden Weight Loss While Having A Lump In Buttocks?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Dec 2015
Question: About three years ago I became aware of a small lump on my upper buttocks under my wallet. It has gotten larger. I have lost weight that makes it more apparent. Now it is the size of a silver dollar, feels fibrous, sore, and has a dime-size red spot in the center that is beginning to ooze. Can you identify this? What do you recommend?
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Most probably a sebaceous cyst

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

To recapitulate: Male/91 - noted small lumps as explained - 3 years ago - gotten larger - lost weight - size of a silver dollar - feels fibrous, sore - dime-size red spot in the center that is beginning to ooze.

Since there are no other symptoms as you have not mentioned so, I would think this as sebaceous cyst. Only the liquid discharge is coming out and the material still remains inside.

I would advise in such a situation the following:
- Please post a clear picture if possible.
- Consult a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation and ask him to excise-in-toto.
This will help in two ways:
1. You get rid of the disease which is not normal part of the body.
2. You get a definite diagnosis by histo-pathology examination.

I hope this answer helps you.
With warm regards.
