What Causes Spotting After Inserting The Nexplanon Device?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: HI, My daughter had a Nexplanon device inserted in mid July. Since then she has had continuous brown thick spotting. She is away at college, and so I am trying to advise her of next steps. She would like to know if the spotting discharge will be on-going and if so for how long. Or If it is perhaps unrelated and she needs to go to see a doctor. She has not been sexually active since August.

Brief Answer:
common adverse effect

Detailed Answer:
Hello, its good to be aware of everything so as to avoid adverse outcomes.
It is common to have such a complaint in device users.
Ask her to take tablet tranexemic acid 500 mg thrice a day for 3 days.
She will stop having discharge but only till a while and it might reoccur again.
It can continue for 6-9 months post insertion.
In case it causes discomfort or there is a heavy flow then she should visit her doctor at the earliest.
All the best.
