default
Posted on Thu, 3 Aug 2017
Question: Yesterday my left eye became extremely bloodshot. It feels very tender with slight tearing but no other discharge. I have had a viral infection over the past week which resulted in pharyngitis. I felt better for the past 2 days however I have again developed a sore throat again today, in addition to the red eye which seems to have gotten more red since yesterday. I do wear contact lenses, acuvue daily disposable, however I have stopped wearing them since the red eye started yesterday.

Brief Answer:
Redshot eye give the history viral infection. self limiting .watch progress.

Detailed Answer:

Hi, Thanks for posting the query, and apologies for the delay.

I have gone through your query, and reviewed the attached pictures,

Viral infection as such is self limiting and does not need any treatment. You can take vitamin C to boost immunity. Give proper information about tear . Is it conjunctival? In that case apply cold compression and can apply refresh eye tears drop. It is good that you have stopped using contact lens since its prolonged use can give rise to corneal erosion and further corneal ulcer. So use specs till you are alright. For throat start warm saline gargling. You can take vitamin C 100mg chewable tablet daily. For secondary infection you can take ezythromycin 500mg tablet one time after food for 5 days.(It is a prescribed medicine) Observe the progress. Get checked by ENT doctor. Maintain hydration, if you are having any itching then take tablet levocetrizine 5mg in morning for five day . Keep your problem under observation. You can consult an eye doctor to watch the progress of redness in eye.It appears to be angular conjunctivitis which is allergic in nature. Already I have advised to take tablet levocetrizine which will take care of it. Youcan apply cromal eye drop two times daily.
