What Causes Severe Pain In Kidney And Lower Back?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Apr 2014
Question: Hello. I am not a huge coffee drinker. But I had way to much water and coffee at lunch today. Needed to urinate really , REALLY BAD. When holding it for a while I got very strong, almost paralyzing shooting kidney pain on both sides of my lower back. Nothing like this has ever happen to me before. Sorry to be so graphic, but I urinated into an empty water bottle I had in a truck. As soon as I was done, I got dizzy, felt like throwing up, my legs got weak and felt like I was about to pass out. I sat down for about five minutes and immediately started sweating profusely. It has been about 3 hours since this happened, kidney pain is very numb, but it's still there. I have urinated about 3 times since. No pain while urinating, urine color appears to be normal. Please help?! Could it be that my kidney reacted this way to Caffeine? Did I damage my kidneys somehow? Thank you, XXXX

Brief answer....given below Detailed answer.... Hello, Thanks for the query. Your symptoms are classical of kidney stones. When kidney stone breaks loose or tends to push forward,it can produce severe pain in lower back and is associated with nausea and vomiting. Sudden passage of large amount of fluid through kidneys might have pushed forward, the underlying stone, resulting in severe pain, dizziness and nausea. You need to go to ER and get the relevant investigations like ultrasound and CT abdomen and urine examination. I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query. Best of luck. Thanks
