What Causes Severe Itching In The Eyes?

Question: My right eye picture attached has been itching for the past three days. the itchy feeling is the worst in the morning. the picture attached is how it looks when I first wake up, eye not crusted over. I have been using equate allergy eye drops in the eye and it really soothes the itchiness of the eye. Do I need to go to my physician now or should I wait a little longer?
