What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain When Diagnosed With Fatty Liver?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: Hi
I am recently diagnosed with Fatty Liver (Grade 2) for which I have already started medication. But since a month I have mild pain on the upper left abdomen. My Ultrasound reports show no other abnormality and now since a week there is very mild pain in the entire abdomen. Plus I continuously feel something stuck on the lower left neck region which gets better with release of gas and if I am able to clear my bowel which has also been a issue since 15 days. I am on homeopathy medicine but the entire thing is making me uncomfortable. Please suggest

Brief Answer:
You can take buscopan tablets or Mefenamic acid/ Dicyclomine for relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

1. You need a physical examination and an interview. Just an Ultrasound cannot diagnose everything with accuracy.
2. I suggest that you stick to allopathy.
3. I request that you mention a list of medicines you are taking and write back to me, this is important.
4. For quick relief of the sort of visceral pain, that you describe, I suggest that you take mefenamic acid and dicyclomine pills. Else, you can take, Buscopan tablets. However, this is only for palliation.
5. So, please follow the suggestions. You can send any reports through the upload button if you wish, they will be helpful too.

MY General physician has reviewed my physically. My weight is 110 Kgs. I have attached my ultra sound report. s of now i am on Ursonil and Evion 600 for 3 months with increased concentration on weight loss etc.

I am also hyper sensitive and am on Telma H 40 since 10 years. I was screened thoroughly then and even afterwards for this and was concluded that it was a heredity problem.

But the major part of the problem is as i said stomach discomfort and feel something is stuck on the left throat and some pressure in the same left throat area. I also visited an ENT who suggested there is nothing form the throat side and everything is clear after physically examining me and concluded that upper refulx may be the only cause. This pressure goes away from time to time. Even when I swallow i feel something but at times when I feel good this sensation is also non existent and I feel normal.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Why don't you try a PPI medication? It's quite effective in most people.

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

1. Thanks for the details. I think hypertension, regardless of the cause, will not be the reason behind the problems that you are describing, and you can continue to take Telma. Note that this drug, does not produce any of these adverse effects.

2. And acid reflux can cause serious discomfort in this region. More so, than analgesics we need to stop excess acid production, don't we?

3. The ENT doctors mention and have concluded that there is no problem or disease in this area. This is a significant point. The dysphagia, that you mention, thus, is not something serious.

4. The PPI, Proton Pump Inhibitor medications such as Omeprazole and Pantoprazole need to be taken for a period of thirty days at a minimum, though you will get some relief of most symptoms quickly. We have a new drug, called as esmoperazole, in the market, and is showing great promise.

5. Some doctors will give you this opinion of undergoing further investigations such as a gastroscopy. I don't think this is actually neccessary, since, your major issues are in the neck region. And I am pretty sure that the ENT doctors have given you a throrough examination, before eliminating ENT problems.

6. You need to see a gastro enterologist. However, in most certainity, he would give you Omeprazole or it's family of drugs. If you wish my thoughts on this, I would ask you to try Pantoprazole 40 mg daily, and you must take this pill an hour before a meal. I mean breakfast.

7. Evion 600, has a slight side effect of dizziness, after intake in 13% of subjects, but not the sort of issues you describe. Ursonil, does not have any action on the cardiac sphincter and so cannot be held responsible for the reflux.

8. There is no statistical casual link, or correlation between weight issues and Reflux.

Write back to me, as to what you think about trying PPI medication, daily for a month. I suggest also that you check the healthcaremagic website for a gastroenterologist of your choice and take another opinion. Note that if you write to YYYY@YYYY they will provide you with one.

Thanks,
Dr. Neel Kudchadkar

Brief Answer:
Mebeverine, Pantoprazole and Cisapride combination will help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

1. I suggest that you take Cisapride and Pantoprazole combination capsules, along with a medicine called as mebeverine. This combination contains the PPI that we discussed. I feel that after taking this cocktail, your bowel movements, flatulence and mucus production will normalize. In fact, I am sure of this.

2. These drugs are inexpensive and easily available.

3. I had instructed you on how to contact a gastro enterologist on healthcaremagic for a 2nd opinion so that you could get the best advice possible. You might also contact customer care, as regards this. They will sort it out for you.

4. There are no attached reports. The upload has failed. You can email them to YYYY@YYYY with the subject line "Attention: Dr. Neel Kudchadkar". You can try uploading the reports again by clicking the upload button.

I hope you feel better. It's good that your reflux has lessened in intensity.

Thanks,
Dr. Neel Kudchadkar
