What Causes Red Soft Spot On Forehead In Infants?

default
Posted on Tue, 31 Mar 2015
Question: My Girlfriend and I have an 8 week old male infant.
This afternoon she accidently fell asleep with him on her chest sitting in an upright position.
While they were both sleeping, she looks to have rested her chin on his soft spot (just above his forehead). I walked in the room, and went to put him in his crib, and I noticed his scalp was very red, and his soft spot seemed deeper than usual.
After 15 minutes, the redness had gone, his soft spot looked normal, and he is alert and seems fine.
Is there any reason for concern ?
Should we still take him to the E.R. ?

Brief Answer:
Baby sleeping

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
Firstly, the baby is fine and there is no need to go to the ER. With prolonged skin-to-skin contact, it is not unusual to see what you saw.
Remember this as being important. It is truly not safe for us to be in our beds with our babies. The risk if injury is greatly increased. Thankfully, nothing happened.
Congratulations on your new baby. I wish you many years of health and happiness.
