What Causes Red Bowel Movement After Having Red Cabbage?

Question: About 40 minutes ago I finished a salad of red cabbage, sirloin steak strips, avocado, and balsamic dressing. About 15 or 20 minutes after eating, I had a bowel movement that had red in it. This is the first that it's happened. Could that be from the red cabbage?

No it is not from the cabbage. If this was not explosive and sudden diarrhea, it is not the cabbage. It takes 12 to 72 hour for the food to pass whole digestive tract.
So most likely you have noticed a blood caused by hemorrhoid. Please consult your doctor and have rectal examination.

I visited the local Urgent Care center after receiving your answer. The dr. did a digital rectal exam and smeared some stool on a card -- the result was negative for blood in my stool. There was still red in my stool this morning. I also drank beet juice 3 days ago. Should I be concerned?

It does not sound like something serious. It might be food parts. Please try to take a look on your stool for next 3 days and do not eat anything in red color in that time. If it wont go away after 3 days consult your doctor once again.
