Question: Hi Doctor,

Since few days I am observing ant bite like bumps with slight itching on different parts of my body which disappears on its own.
Earlier it used to happen only near elbows, but now it is happening near the hip, thighs and other parts of body .
It usually happens during night times, and disappears in some hours.

I have taken 2-3 Cetrizine tablets over a period of a week.
But, still it happens now and then.

Please suggest.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Possibility of scabies

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Perhaps you have Scabies. It is a mite infection and is characterized by mosquito bite like lesions on various body parts like abdomen, thighs, arms etc. The itching is more at night and there may be other affected family members too. Single, whole body application, from neck downwards of 5 % permethrin cream, kept overnight for 8 hours is usually sufficient. I also suggest you to take an oral antihistamine e.g., Cetirizine 10mg tab once every evening for symptomatic relief from itching.

Thank you Doctor for your quick response.
Could you please also suggest the name of 5 % permethrin cream which is to be used, and how long should I be taking Cetrizine tablets?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Possible Scabies

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Permite cream contains 5% Permethrin. It is available on the prescription of a local medical practitioner. I'd suggest you take Cetirizine tablet 10mg for a week or 10 days, once every nightly.
