What Causes Raised Pinkish Lump On Forearm With Crusty Surface?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Jan 2015
Question: ! am a 67 year old male in generally good health who never venture into the Sun.
About 8-9 months ago I developed a lump on my forearm that is raised pink, irregular border and has a crusty surface. I thought perhaps it was caused by me picking at a wound or scab I may have had as I pick at most things.
It does not hurt, ooze or bleed and seldom it may itch a tiny bit but I leave it alone.
Size has not gotten any bigger in 8-9 months since I noticed it.
I read WAY too much on the NET but from all that I have read or have seen pics of it looks to me like Basel Cell.
I have not been to see a Dr. as funds are pretty tight right now at the Hoiday time.
Can a Dr. please look at the pic I am trying to attach from my Face book as I dont see any other way to attach a picture.

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload images to this portal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I understand your query and concern.

It’s extremely important to rule out any cancerous process like malignant melanoma.

Basal cell carcinoma is quite unlikely considering the location site.

I could not gain access to your website you mentioned.

I request you to upload images of lesion on the upload attachments column right beside your query area on your dashboard.

Thank you.

Thank you Dr. for your reply,
I have up-loaded a picture for you to review.
The picture appears to me from all I have seen on the different skin cancer sites to be of Basel cell.
Squamas cell looks totally different and Melanoma from my understanding and from the pics I have seen is dark colored and is usually flat and not pinkish or raised,
The item in my picture is that of a dime so you can see or gauge the appx: size of the lesion I am referring to.

Brief Answer:
Skin biopsy is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I have gone through your picture. The lesions are not very specific to a particular cause. It doesn't suggest cancer either. However I advice you to have an incisional biopsy for accurate diagnosis .

The treatment is largely based on the results.

Thank you.

Thank you Dr. for your reply.
W/O putting words into your mouth so to speak it doesnt from my picture appear to be squamous or melanoma does it?
As I mentioned before (and I am NO expert) it appears to be for all intents and purposes Basel Cell if anything!
Squamous looks completely different from all pictures I have seen from various Cancer centers on the NET and Melanoma as I have seen from pictures on the NET is a flat, non raised and DARK spot.

Brief Answer:
Biopsy of the lesion will clear all doubts.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Yes you are right to a major extent.

But all melanomas need not be dark coloured. There are a set of non pigmented amelanotic melaomas.

Its quite rare for basal cell ca to present on forearm.

Basal cell ca are typically borrowing. This is not a feature in your case.

Squamous cells has wide presentations.

Basically you need biopsy to differentiate the lesion as malignant or non malignant. This is the first prerequisite.

Hence there is no use in documenting things between us on a theoretical basis basing things on web available pictures.

Thank you.
