What Causes Pressure And Tingling Sensation In The Chest And A Feeling Of Not Getting Enough Oxygen?

Question: Good morning. I had a fairly unique feeling last night as I lay down to bed. I am a 51 yr old male, we have a history of heart disease in family so I am a slight bit concerned. I have had fluttering in my chest in the past, arythmia I believe. But last night was different. A slight pressure in the chest, but mostly a sort of tickling sensation, and a slight feeling of not getting enough oxygen, or it feeling like it is slightly difficult to breath.
No chest pain. Almost a numbness. No real dizziness, but I felt so uncomfortable last night, w the tickling sensation that it felt difficult to fall to sleep...eventually I drifted off to sleep...

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Your current clinical symptomatology needs to be further evaluated through careful differential diagnosis.

A tickling sensation, especially pressure in the chest associated with breathing symptomatology may be suggestive of cardiac or pulmonary issue.

Coming to this point, it is necessary discussing with your attending doctor on the possibility of performing a comprehensive clinical evaluation with a physical exam, resting ECG, cardiac enzymes and chest X ray study.

Other health disorders may be responsible as well, including esophageal spasm, hiatal hernia and acid reflux, a backbone degenerative disorder, etc.

That's why a differential diagnosis workup should be followed by excluding each of the above mentioned issues.

You should discuss with your doctor on this issues of concern.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
