Brief Answer:
Commonest condition is pilonidal sinus

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Its important to know if you have developed a pilonidal sinus. This is typically a painful condition that happens due to infection in the top part of the cleft of buttocks due to small holes under the skin and these are related to long durations of sitting. A pilonidal sinus will not usually cause any noticeable symptoms unless it becomes infected. This can cause a pus-filled abscess to develop. Infection signs include pain, redness and swelling in the affected area.

A consultation with you doctor will confirm the condition. If you have a pilonidal sinus, you must keep the area clean and dry. Try any sit on chairs with the seat having perforations for adequate ventilation.

If a pilonidal sinus becomes infected, it should be treated as soon as possible, as it is likely to get worse. Initially its treated with antibiotics, but you will also need to have the pus drained out of the abscess during a minor surgical procedure called incision and drainage.

If you are not having a pilonidal sinus then it is important to get the swelling evaluated for any benign tumor or infection.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
Pilonidal cysts almost always occur in cleft

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

A pilonidal cyst is almost always located near the tailbone at the top of the cleft of the buttocks. The reason is when hair punctures the skin and then becomes embedded it forms a cyst and on long periods of sitting where there is sweat formation, the cyst gets infected and there is a painful condition. Please consult with your doctor and get yourself clinically examined for confirming diagnosis and to prevent further complications.

Hope your query is answered.
