What Causes Oedema With Ejection Fraction Of 75%?

Question: I'm a 50 y/0 male, recently had a stress test done, echo, heart scan done. Have an EF of 75%, EKG showed non specific ST changes when the HR was at 170, MY BP is always good 100/64 to 116/64 pulse always between 60 and 80. I was on the treadmill for 15 minutes without any ectopy or SOB; my BP was 138/64 and HR 170 with treadmill at almost a run pace and on the highest angle. I recently had a bad viral lung infection that lasted 8 weeks, ended up with ventricular ectopy for 4 hours one day and 3 hours another day, had severe dizziness. I saw a neurologist, head of Albany Medical Center, he said I had a viral syndrome going on and it was not temporal lobe seizures. I see him for front left temporal lobe seizures.. R/t head injury 1 yr ago. I went to the doctors because I had SOB, coughing, palpitations etc.. two weeks later, all symptoms subsided. I wanted to know, why do I have 3+ pitting edema on my LE's when my EF is 75%, I don't like salt, I weigh 269 at 5'8", but was a weight lifter years ago and ran up to 17 miles a day.. over trained for years.. I have a slight LV hypertrophy with no apparent reason when I asked the ED MD why I had it. In addition, I was a RN in ICU, worked with CABG patients for 5 years.. How do I get rid of the pitting edema..

Brief Answer:
Look for deep venous insuffiency

Detailed Answer:
Dear friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Oedema is likely to be from venous insufficiency.
Heart, especially the right heart is just one of the causes.
Others include Kidney, Liver, low protein, and incompetent veins….
Hypoalbuminemia and hepatic involvement have other obvious signs and symptoms, you are not likely to have missed…
Is the kidney function normal? Need to see - especially because of the history of stones in the past…

The most likely cause in this situation are the veins… One needs a Doppler to assess them / deep venous varicosity from weakness of vessel wall or valves, obstruction from the legs up to the abdomen (IVC) have to be evaluated. Consult a vascular surgeon…

‘Slight LV hypertrophy’ and ‘Non-specific’ ST-T changes are likely to be from overweight and ‘overtraining’… In case of symptoms, go for Thallium stress imaging…. You will be well versed, of course

Take care
God bless
