Brief Answer:
Yes it can cause pain for one week

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam,
I read your question and I got this that you got knee injection for knee pain and swelling. I can assure you that it is quite normal to have pain in the knee joint after steroid injection for 5 to 6 days. It is nothing to be worried about. This is because steroids are irritant initially for few days.
I would suggest you following.
1. Hot water fomentaion
2. Avoid sitting on the floor and squatting
3. Compression bandage
4.Tablet Etoricoxib after discussing with your doctor
Steroid injection shows its full effect in 3 weeks. Some time it needs to be repeated after 3 months. I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup question.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Both can be used

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Both heat and ice can be used. Heat increases blood flow and wash away all toxins from knee . Ice causes decrease swelling by vaso constriction. Ice is more effective in first 24 hours after injury /injection. After that local heat is better. As you said that it is already more then 5 days so i think you should prefer heat.
I would suggest you to discuss with your doctor about both and then choose as he says.
Let me know if there is any other query.
Thanks

Hello madam,
